Our Kindergarteners learned about this tradition and made their predictions “yes” or “no” to the question “Will the groundhog see its shadow?”.

Groundhog Day is celebrated in the USA and Canada every year on 2nd February. It is traditional for a famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, to appear from his burrow. Legend says that if Phil sees his shadow on 2nd February, the winter chill will continue for 6 more weeks. If the weather is cloudy and he doesn’t see his shadow, we can expect an early spring.
Our Kindergarteners learned about this tradition and made their predictions “yes” or “no” to the question “Will the groundhog see its shadow?”. Afterwards, they made their own pop-up craft and mini-books. When the long awaited result was announced, we learned that Phil saw his shadow! Six more weeks of winter it is!
