Our UK group was excited to take a train ride into the beautiful sea-side town of Brighton. We had the opportunity to visit the Sea Life aquarium, which is the oldest operating aquarium in the world, since 1872! We had a wonderful time, and we ended our afternoon with a picturesque stroll through the streets of Brighton just before returning to the University of Sussex for dinner and competitve games with the rest of the teenagers.

Our 3rd night on campus had a surprise activity waiting for us. We were given a list of 57 photo challenges that, though collaboration with our team members, we had to complete in the short time of 1 hour and 30 minutes! Our students came together to create the best photos and videos that landed them the 1st place position of the 5 teams that participated. Our prize, some delicious strawberry biscuits.. Our experience, unforgettable! Go team Zeus.

Day 4 was another day full of events! After breakfast and our morning lessons, we went on a short excursion. We visited the small town of Eastbourne, where we got to explore the amazing pier, which was built in a Victorian style. Afterwards, we explored the small streets and visited some shops. In the evening, we mingled with students from other schools in a variety of activities. Some of us took part in a Kahoot! game show, and others played team sports on the large grassy field of the campus.

Day 5 was an opportunity for our students to mingle with the students from other countries: Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Iran, Brazil and Turkey. We spent time getting to know each other and learning about their different cultures, and they exchanged contact information in hopes to keep in touch.

Day 6, our long awaited trip to London has finally come. We started our day with a visit to Madame Tussauds, where we saw wax figures of many famous people including the Royal Family, important politicians, actors, singers and athletes. We also enjoyed a 4D film. We took a ride on “the tube” to have the full London experience. From there, we visited the British Museum, where we got the chance to appreciate the sculptures of the Parthenon as well as the ancient Egyptian artifacts. True to British locals, we rode on the classic double decker bus. Afterwards, we enjoyed a cruise on the River Thames, where we admired all of the famous sights of London such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, the Shard and London Bridge. Next came Covent Garden and Apple Market, where we were able to shop and get a bite to eat. We ended our adventurous day by visiting Soho and watching the Mary Poppins musical at Prince Edward Theatre. We had a lovely time at the musical and we enjoyed the acting, dancing and singing. Our trip to London will remain unforgettable.

We spent the day in Brighton, taking advantage of our last day and evening together in the UK. Our day began at North Laine, an artsy and vintage area in Brighton, where we found lots of unique shops. We couldn’t leave without visiting Blaker Street, a street at the peak of a mountain with brightly coloured houses and a breathtaking view of the pier. Of course, we also visited the famous Royal Pavilion. We had some free time at the Churchill Shopping Centre, visited the i360 Tower, the Upsidedown House, and we ended our visit at the Brighton Palace Pier & arcade, where we rode the amusement Park rides and had loads of fun! In the evening, we played games and had a pizza night! We had an unforgettable time practising our communication skills and broadening our horizons. Until next time!
