On Monday, 2nd June, something exciting happened during our English hour — our Primary 5 students travelled back in time to Ancient Greece, not by time machine, but through a creative escape room adventure!
Teachers involved: Zoe Filippidis, Effie Asvesta, Doria Panae, English teachers
Themed around the Ancient Olympic Games, the activity turned our classroom into a mini Olympia. With clues hidden in scrolls, mystery puzzles to solve, and even some physical challenges, the students used their knowledge of English, P.E., and Geography to “escape” by unlocking the secrets of Ancient Greece in order to find the missing Olympic flame and save the Olympic games.
Working in teams, students became athletes, trainers, historians, and detectives. They matched vocabulary, identified famous Olympic cities like Delphi, Sparta, and Athens, and even raced to solve riddles and PE-inspired puzzles. Along the way, they discovered the incredible story of Diagoras of Rhodes and his brave daughter Kallipateira.
The event ended with certificates, a reward sticker, high-fives, and lots of smiles. Every student walked away not just with a prize, but with a better understanding of ancient history and a big boost in their English skills.
Who knew learning could feel like the Olympics?
