On Wednesday 28th May our Primary 3 students enjoyed a unique and engaging cultural experience by learning about — and tasting — a traditional English breakfast.

To begin the activity, students were introduced to the different items typically found in an English breakfast, such as eggs, toast, baked beans, sausages, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Using a specially designed worksheet, each student created their own English breakfast plate by selecting and colouring the foods they wanted to try. This not only reinforced food vocabulary but also encouraged them to make choices and express preferences in English.

After completing their worksheets, students had the exciting opportunity to taste the real foods! There were many adventurous eaters in the room, with some students trying certain foods for the first time. Following the tasting session, students reviewed the breakfast items by giving their opinions using English phrases such as “I like…” and “I don’t like…”. They also rated the foods with smiley faces and shared their thoughts with classmates.

This hands-on experience combined language learning with cultural exploration. It helped students practice vocabulary in a meaningful context, improve their speaking and listening skills, and build confidence in expressing themselves in English.

The activity was a big hit with our curious and enthusiastic learners — and a wonderful reminder that learning English can be both educational and delicious!
