Anyone dropping off their child at school on Monday 31st October couldn’t help but notice that the school entrance and the outside of the school had been decorated with the macabre and scary to celebrate Halloween. Learning a foreign language is not only concerned with grammar and vocabulary but also involves learning about its people, culture and customs. To reflect the theme of Halloween, all High School lessons had a theme of horror.

Even the school bell had been changed to the Siouxsie & the Banshees’ spooky song, ‘Halloween’. The theme of the teachers’ costumes at this year’s celebrations at Rodion Paideia High School was Dead Disney. Mrs Lynne Simeonidi was a murderous Snow White (accompanied by her dead dwarves) while Mr Peter Alatsas was convincing as a zombie Minnie Mouse. Ms Frances Boniface came dressed as a dead Pinocchio.

Learning a foreign language is not only concerned with grammar and vocabulary but also involves learning about its people, culture and customs. To reflect the theme of Halloween, all High School lessons had a theme of horror. A Gymnasio read and watched an excerpt from the Roald Dahl classic ‘The Witches’ whilst B Gymnasio enjoyed a cartoon documentary about vampires and Dracula. Finally, G Gymnasio completed a comprehension and vocabulary worksheet after watching a fun video about protecting themselves against a zombie attack.

It was an enjoyable and fun day for all. Happy Halloween!
