Thanksgiving is definitely a time where we thank one another for being in each other’s lives, but also for sharing special moments together in good health.

Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. It originated from a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth, and the Wampanoag people (Indians).

In the USA, it is celebrated the last Thursday of November every year. On this day, family and friends gather for a feast which often includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. Parades and football games also have long associations with this holiday.

With this opportunity, our Nursery school celebrated being thankful for all the things that we have in our lives: our family, friends, teachers, food and good health were some of the things we discussed.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, the children had an assignment to complete with their families – disguise the turkey so he doesn’t get eaten on Thanksgiving. The children, along with their families, made some incredible disguised turkeys, which later in the week took part in a competition. We also worked as class to make a turkey with autumn leaves, and another to take home, where we used fine motor skills to glue various feathers to our turkeys.

Our thankful celebration week came to a close on Wednesday, 24th November, where the children discussed the Thanksgiving meal and what we were going to have for lunch that afternoon. We took part in the long awaited Thanksgiving Feast, and we enjoyed a delicious meal with our school family, our beloved friends. Our children had a wonderful time creating an everlasting memory that will be remembered for years to come.

Thanksgiving is definitely a time where we thank one another for being in each other’s lives, but also for sharing special moments together in good health.

A special thank you to Ms. Monika and the RestPoint staff for making this special feast possible!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! What are you thankful for?
